JONAS CRABTREE:

Jonas/John’s mother was unmarried when she had him, and was then Grace Crabtree, single woman. But I’m unable to find her in previous years. They often referred to people as a son-in-law when they really mean step-son. The writer of the Census also wrote that James was a son-in-law and the transcriber correctly put him down as the son in the database, which you’d need a subscription to see that on Ancestry.com. Grace is listed as 20 years younger than her husband.

Grace Greenwood/Crabtree (Doris’s G,G,Grandmother) has two children, Josiah and Jonas/John before she met Abraham Green, then had 3 more children with him.- James, William, & Anderson.

I couldn’t find Grace Crabtree or Grace Greenwood listed in 1841 with a son John/Jonas either.

In 1841 Census, Abraham and Grace were listed as married. So James was born after they were married, but the census had him listed incorrectly in the 1851 census as ‘son-in-law, but in 1861 he is correctly listed as son.  In 1841 they list a William 14, Anderson 12 and Sarah 5 and none of them are listed 10 yrs later in the 1851 Census.
